Dog Parks In Ajax

The neighborhood of Ajax offers two awesome dog parks to run around with your canine best friend, without worrying about having to keep them stuck on a leash. At these parks, your dog can run to their heart’s content, make new playmates, and you can meet some neighbours! Not every dog park is created equal, and these two dog parks each have some great features. We’re sure that all the pooches in attendance will have their tails wagging for a day of outdoor fun at these dog parks.

Greenwood Conservation Area

2290 Greenwood Rd, Ajax, ON L1T 4S4

This park sits at the northwest corner of Greenwood Conservation area, located at Concession Road 5 and Church. The entrance for the off-leash area is not the signed entrance to the main conservation area, it is actually on Church Street North, north of Taunton Road and just south of Concession 5. There is a parking area there, but it is fairly small, so be mindful when planning a visit at busy times. This park was formerly a gravel pit and has an expansive amount of running room to tire out any pup! The area is also partially fenced. Greenwood Conservation Area is connected to a trail system and forested area, if your dog prefers a different adventure. If your doggo prefers a leisurely walk on the leash, the area offers so many various terrain options, such as hills, forest, and flat plains for you to explore. There is even a creek for your canine companion to splash around in!

Whitby Off Leash Dog Park South

The park is not fully fenced in, but there is a natural buffer created by plants and grasses. There is some parking, but you could also park more south near Rotary Park by Lake Ontario and walk up to the off-leash area with your dog for a long stroll before off-leash play! This park is connected to a trail system, and there is also a creek nearby, in case your dog wants to sniff out some new places. This park is right near a Tim Hortons, so if you want to grab yourself a snack before or after playing, it’s very convenient!

Don’t forget that when you visit any dog park, there are some best practices you should follow. First of all, make sure your dog is licenced and is up to date with all their vaccinations. Secondly, all dogs should be neutered or spayed in order to partake in the fun. Third of all, any dogs who have been ordered that they require a muzzle, as per the Dog Owners’ Liability Act, should not attend the parks.

Some other important practices you should follow are that all dogs should be with an owner who is at least 16 years of age and that the dog is within your sight at all times. When entering and exiting the off-leash area, you should have your pup on a leash. Also, if you have a small dog, you should use the small dog area, if available, in order to avoid any conflicts and to keep everyone feeling safe and comfortable. One of the most important things you can do is to ensure that you pick up after your dog, so make sure to bring extra poop bags, just in case your dog needs to take care of business.

Finally, keep this dog park etiquette in mind while visiting the park. Before petting another dog, be sure to ask the other parent for permission. If you have treats with you, make sure to only give them to your dog after visiting the park, to ensure there is no competition between dogs. Additionally, if you decide to bring a toy to the park, make sure to bring a second one in case another dog grabs the first one. While your dog is occupied with the second toy, you can ask the other owner to return your toy to you. And most importantly, don’t forget to have the most tail-wagging fun with your furry friend!
